She Has Arrived

Hello my lovely people! I hope that everyone is doing well!!! Well I don't even know where to start for me. This week has been like a roller coaster! So Monday was a pretty busy and kind of sad day. Me and Sister Rawlins were pretty sad all week since we knew she was leaving and that we wouldn't be companions so we decided to treat ourselves to KFC (yes there is a KFC here even though no one even knows what it stands for!) So that was great! The week was pretty good though. It was a somewhat slow week though, we didn't have many lessons and spent a lot of time contacting. I guess i can say the best part of the week was when I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Sister Mbele haha. Yes I'm officially a trainer now! We got a call on Wednesday and they told us that my new companion was coming later that night at like 8 or 9 so of course I had anxiety all day long! I thought I would have a heart attack but she showed up around 9 and we went to bed and Thursday was our first day. Since she is from the MTC now we stay in until 10 training in the mornings and just practicing and doing role plays and such. She is so great! She is from South Africa in East London. She is 20 years old and its only her, her aunt and cousins that are members. She is truly inspiring and great. When I look at her I just remember when I first came and how homesick I was.  So since she is going through that same thing it is really making me feel like a greater love for her. She really is great though. We have a lot of fun and laugh and joke and I already know that I will love training her!

So these past few days we have just spent really just showing her around and just teaching her how to teach. Honestly I feel like i've already learned so much. Having to be a good example is definitely pushing me to be a better representative of the Savior. One thing that I definitely realized this week is that a mission is hard until you love the people and you love the work. When I first got to Malawi I felt like it was so hard because I was missing Botswana so much. So this week we were in a lesson and I just had this overwhelming love just fill my chest and this sweet happiness. I just felt like I was seeing him through our Heavenly Fathers eyes. I realized then that I really do love the people here and that is how we should see everyone that we meet each day. Each person we see we should look at through our Heavenly Fathers eyes and for their true potential. The gospel helps us do that and helps them reach that potential. I am so grateful for the opportunity that I have to even be here in Malawi and to be a representative of the Savior Jesus Christ. Im grateful that each day I get to be his hands and make others feel the love that he has for them. I know that this is a true calling and Im so lucky to have the gospel and to know the truth. I look forward to even helping my companion to develop that same love for our brothers and sisters here. I love you all and appreciate all of the letters and emails and pictures!!!!! You are all so great!

The Time Is Far Spent

Good Afternoon my fellow family and friends I hope everyone is doing so amazing and great and know that I miss you all very much! I just want to say thanks for all of the love and support! You are all so great! So overall I really had no words to describe this week because it was possibly the most emotional week of my entire mission. Why you might ask? Well we will get to that shortly.

So this week actually was a pretty great week. Me and Sister Rawlins have been working so hard to  really build up our teaching pool and find people, especially families to teach. Honestly things are going well. We have one investigator that we definitely found miraculously. We were just walking around on this street with no one to teach and we just decided to go into his yard. We see this older guy sitting outside painting his garden tools and he looks up and says, "Oh wow its the Latter Day Saints. You're back!" So of course me and Sister Rawlins look at each other confused and he tells us to come in and take a seat. When we sit down he begins to tell us his story. How he met missionaries back in 2004 and he had been taught pretty much everything. he went to church every week and was ready to get baptized, but then his wife died and he stopped going. That was truly a miracle and we even shared more with him about the plan of salvation and about what happens to us when we die. It was so powerful and now is coming to church! So I can definitely say that miracles are really happening here and also I know that with time he will be baptized. So that was just one of the great miracles that we saw. We taught some really great lessons and even I have so much hope for the area.

Another great thing that we got to experience was Saturdays Fireside here in Blantyre. Elder Cook of the Quorum of the Seventy and in the presidency of the Africa Southeast Area came and held a devotional about the church here in Africa. It was so Amazingggggggg. Words cant even express how amazing it was. He pretty much talked about how the church in Africa is growing so fast. It is growing faster here than it grew when it first started in the States. Unfortunately the church is growing so fast that the members here can't sustain themselves and so alot of the money the church has is being used up faster than it is getting so the Prophet and apostles came up with a solution. Now instead of building new chapels for every ward in Africa now they will just start having one chapel as a stake center all the rest of the meetinghouses will be leased or rented homes. This was there are still places to meet but doesnt cost so much. It was a really inspired devotion and the words he spoke at the end were truly inspired. He said that he felt that the church in Africa only needs about 30 years and its will have more members than anywhere else in the whole world. Isnt that amazing? I'm so happy that I get to take part in building the Lords Kingdom even if its only placing a small square on the foundation, I know the work we are doing here is great. He even said that he thinks most of the missionaries of the future will come from Africa and so that makes our job so much more important. We are molding future leaders of the church and its is so wonderful and great. I was really inspired and enjoyed it quite alot.

Oh man but the most intense part was the end when our mission president pulled me and my companion aside to talk to us alone. Man, he told us that we are being transferred and that I am called to be a trainer and my companion Sister Rawlins is leaving and going to Lilongwe (Another City) and that this is our last week together. I think we were both in shock and we just kind of stood there both about to cry. Honestly I was completely surprised and slightly in shock. So I will be training. My new companion comes from the MTC this week and then we will meet so I dont know her name or anything yet I just know she is from Africa so guess im training! At first I was really thinking, "Man I can't get a break" haha but honestly I feel like I have been stretched so much this year and honestly I feel like God is really molding me into something so much better. I realize now that trials are a way to refine us and they make us better. So im really sad to leave Sister Rawlins she honestly was exactly what I needed and she is like a sister to me but i'm excited to be what my Heavenly Father wants me to be and do what he wants me to do.

So I want you all to know that I love you very much and even know that this church is true and I wouldn't give it up for the world!

P.S. If anyone wants to know what they can do or something that I would love it would definitely be Letters!!! Emails are great but Letters would be thrilling!!! :)) I wish you all the best and hope you have a great week. Love you love you love you!

7 Months of Miracles

Greetings my lovely family and friends!

I hope all is well on that side of the globe. First off I just want to say thanks to everyone for their wonderful emails and letters. They are truly uplifting and thoughtful! I love you all and I think you are great! Agh So i don't even know what to say about his week except my stress level has been pretty high! I have realized that I am a worrier and I worry about things ALOT hah sometimes its good sometimes its bad. So other than that this week was pretty great. So this week we had the chance to do exchanges and so I was working with Sister Getts (The Sister Training Leader) in my area which was pretty great. She is a year on mission and she is from Montana so we worked together in my area and it was a learning experience. Its always great to work with different people because you learn to teach better and how to be a better missionary.It was truly an eye opening day for me in a few different reasons. So we actually had our day pretty planned out but of course things never go according to plan and a few appointments fell through so we had a few hours open to just do contacting and some finding. So we drive around trying to decide where to go and we were about to stop in one area but i had a feeling we should go further into this nicer area, so we did. We get out and we are talking to people and then we pass a lady on the street and we speak to her and she stops and starts talking to us. She tells us that she used to be taught by missionaries (5 times) and that she has a Book of Mormon and she used to come to church every week but it had been years since the last time. We talk to her and she tells us that she doesnt actually live over there but she just happened to be in that area at that specific time. Man. It was so powerful. We knew then that we had been led to go to that area so that we could find her and if we had stopped earlier where we were going to, we probably would have never met her.

So if that wasn't powerful enough we then head towards the car because it was geting late and we had another appointment but we saw that we had 10 minutes so we decide we would go down one more street. So as we start walking we come to a street that has two right turns so we could either take the first or we could take the second. So Sister Getts asks me which we should take and then we decide to take the second. As soon as we turn the corner we see a man sitting outside of his house. We speak to him and he calls us over to talk to him. As we go into the yard and introduce ourselves he tells us that we are exactly who he is looking for and that he has been searching for "spiritual food" and wants to be spiritually fed. He was so excited and very adament. We knew that we had been led there for a reason. A simple choice of which street led us to finding someone that Heavenly Father was preparing to meet us. I honestly know that God prepares people to receive us. That as we do our parts and we open our mouths, then God can lead us to the people or the people will be led to us. I know that God has a hand in the work and as we live worthy of the spirit we can be lead to know what to do, where to go, and what to say. There is no way to do missionary work without the Lord. This is his work and these are his children. I love being a missionary. This week I reached 7 months and I realized that time is going by fast. I have had 7 months of miracles and I hope to have those 11 more. I love you all and thanks so much for the love and the emails! Have a great week!

Patience and Humility

Hello. :)

So I have tried to come up with more creative ways to say hello but no success yet. So how is everyone? I hope life is great and that everyone is enjoying the lovely weather. The weather here is very nice. Usually its just right in the middle. Not too hot...not to cold... with a nice breeze :) I'm hoping that will help me stay my original color. I have already decided I will have to stay in for a long while for this tan to fade :) But anyway this week has been another great week! We are still doing lots of finding each and everyday in hopes of finding people that will really help establish the church. This mission in the past has had quite a hard time because missionaries were kind of just doing what they thought would help. Mission before was just about "finding, teaching, and baptizing." Therefore there have been thousands of people baptized in Africa and many were not truly converted because they didnt truly understand the gospel and now there are so many less actives. Now the mission is trying to emphasize us teaching people that will truly understand the gospel and will help establish the church so we are trying to focus on people that are more settled and educated so we can have stronger leaders here in the church. So that is somethings that me and my companion have really been working on this week and let me tell you it is sooooooo hard! Honestly it is so much easier to teach those people that are poor because they are humble and they listen and as we try to find more educated people we definitely get more rejections. 

Being here in Malawi has taught me more patience and more humility. I definitely felt it this week as we knock on gate after gate; door after door and we got no after no. It was something I definitely had never experienced before. Me and Sister Rawlins have been trying to be more courageous and have been feeling slightly more discouraged. It is hard when people say they don't care about what you have to say and they don't take the time to listen. But we had an experience this week that truly was great. I have been here in my area for over a month with little to no success. Most people wont even open their gate for us and so one evening we decided we were going to knock on doors in one of the nicest areas around. Big houses, fancy cars, all of that. So we start knocking and man we didnt know what to do. No one was letting us in and we were just getting more and more tired and discouraged. We had walked all day and we were tired and all of that. So it was getting kind of dark and our ride was coming to get us. So we were going down this road and there was one more house at the end. So at this point we could turn around and head back to our car, or we could keep going and knock on this one last gate. So I tell myself okay after this gate we will go back. So we go up to the gate and knock. So immediately it opens and the guard asks us what we want and we say that we want to share a message about families. So to our surprise he goes and talks to the people in the house. So a little while later, a young man comes out and he asks us what we want so again we say the same thing and we tell him that we want to share it with his whole family. So he goes in the house to tell his parents. 

 I think my heart about stopped! Never had a person even come out f the house before! So then we see a women come out of her house. A business woman all dressed  and she comes out and talks to us. We tell her we want to share this message about families with her and she is super friendly and sweet. She tells us to give her our contacts and she will call us because she wants to know what we are sharing with people. So i know that for some of you thats not a big deal. Someone just tells us that they want to learn more, but for us it was definitely a sign of our Heavenly Fathers tender mercies. When we feel as though there is nothing else we can do our Heavenly Father shows us that he loves us and that this is his work. We have to trust that he knows who we are and where we need to go and he can guide us. I honestly can say that I know that miracles can happen. They haven't ceased. God hasn't forgotten us and he won't because we are his children and he loves us.

I know that this is our Heavenly Fathers work and I know that he has his hand in everything that we do. I know that as we trust in him that we will see miracles and he will be able to show us those miracles. I love him so much. I know that his gospel is true. I know that this is the only true church on the whole earth and that we have the restored gospel. I know that and I will never  let that go. I pray that everyone will continue to share that gospel with everyone around them so that we can all someday return to live with our father again. I love you all and I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Families Can Be Forever

Hello my family and friends!

I hope that everyone is not too cold. I hear that the US has been practically frozen lately but don't worry i'm soaking up plenty of sun here! Ah! Well, what can I say about this week. It was pretty amazing! Even though we don't have a huge teaching pool yet since we are whitewashing we are definitely doing a good amount of finding and teaching! Hopefully all of the finding will pay off soon. One of the best things I guess I can say is that Thursday was our Zone Conference and so the mission president and his wife came and we had a day long conference where we had instruction and guidance on how to better do our missionary work. One of the biggest emphasis right now in Africa is family history. The church is definitely becoming more adaptable in a way that helps us in our missionary work. Since alot of the people here don't have internet or even know how to use the internet to be able to do family history the church has now provided us with family history booklets that people can record their family history by hand and then give it to other members who can get those names ready for them and take them to the temple. This is something that I definitely thought was amazing! One thing that I think alot of people miss about the gospel is that the family is central to God's plan and central to the gospel. We all lived with God before we came to earth. We were all connected. Being born on the earth has sort of seperated us from God and by being in families and by sealing our families together we are all connecting our families back together again and eventually sealing us all back together to God. That is the purpose of the gospel and it is what our Heavenly Father wants. So many people don't recognize that, and they don't recognize that Satan knows this is what God wants and so he attacks families. He wants us to be angry and fight with one another. He wants us to break apart because he knows that ultimately we will suffer and not truly be happy. That's why it is so important for us to build our families on the gospel. It is the only rock that cant break and the only thing that will keep our families together. I know that it is true and so I have definitely gained a greater appreciation from my family and I know how important it is to our Heavenly Father. So that was a wonderful day and I learned alot of things that have definitely changed my life.

This week has also been a very great one as I have been able to better feel and recognize the importance of the spirit and living in a way that we can feel the spirit. This week we had a relief society activity and it went a little longer than we thought and we only had like an hour to go teaching so we were trying to decided whether we should go out to the area that we planned to work in or should we just stay close to home and do contacting. So we decided, why not! Lets just go ahead and go out to the area we planned, we wouldn't have much time but we would have some. So one of the recent converts lives in this area and so we decide we will go and visit him. So we go to his house and we find that he is out of town. We were a little sad but then we met his sister and we started talking to her. A little while later her husband comes in and actually asks us to share with them our message. As we teach i'm I can tell that he is being totally defensive. Everything we say about the church, or Joseph Smith he tries to pose an objection. It came to a point where I was just answering all of these questions and I had no idea how but the words... they just came to me. That was a truly wonderful moment as I knew that Heavenly Father was speaking through me because I couldn't even remember what I said but I can see in his eyes that his heart was softened and even afterwards he offered to walk us to the kombi (African bus). It was really a great experience and I know that the spirit had touched his heart through me and that we were lead to go there and meet this family and I have such great hopes for them and what will happen. I know that God places people in our lives for a reason and that sometimes he touches their lives through us. I have a strong testimony of the gospel and I know that all of it is true. I hope that one day everyone will able to experience the joy that the gospel brings. It truly is good news!

Priesthood Blessings

Hello my dear family and friends

So man what a crazy week this has been. I really don't even know were to start! So this week was pretty much  uneventful as far as missionary work goes for a few reasons but the biggest I would have to say: Sicknesses. So the past few weeks I have feeling pretty sick. I don't know if its change of climate or the food or what but almost everyday I just have been feeling so bad! But the thing is, all the missionaries have been feeling a little down so we all thought we would just get better. So Tuesday I woke up feeling the worst. I honestly couldn't even go out so me and my companion stayed in and I just rested and I started feeling better later in the afternoon. However when I woke up then my companion was feeling worse! She was having a headache, chills and just feeling bad so we decided to just stay in and she even took her temperature and it was over 100 so we knew we needed to stay in. So we both were pretty much in bad shape for the rest of the day.

So the next day my companion was feeling even worse so we went ahead and went to the hospital. They did the tests and all and lo and behold the doctor told her she had 4+ Malaria which is the most severe Malaria so she had to stay in the hospital until she got better. Man we were both scared but we knew it had to be done. So we were in the hospital and I felt so bad for her. Man Malaria is the worst for anyone who doesn't know and Malawi has like the highest rate for it so it was pretty crazy. But luckily she got a priesthood blessing and the next day her Malaria was gone. The doctors were all in awe and they were saying that never happens and it was a miracle and it was so amazing to see. Its amazing to see how the power of God, the priesthood can really work miracles. We knew that it was only God. So my week was spent just kind of caring for her and all which I think definitely made us grow closer lol. She finally got to come home on Saturday and so now we are just kind of taking it slow for the next few days until she can regain her strength. So unfortunately I don't have any huge moments that happened but It has definitely built my testimony of the priesthood power. I know that if we have the faith, that we can be healed and I know that this church is true. We have the power, the priesthood, and it is truly the power of God and I can't deny it and the miracles I have seen. I pray that all those who have the priesthood live worthy of this amazing privledge and responsibility so that you can bless the lives of God's children. I love you all and I'm so glad to be here serving the Lord. I know that it is only for a short time and I hope that I can share this message of the Restored gospel with the whole world.
